FLOKK and HYGGE
Custom Woven Design, inspired by Norway’s Free-Grazing Flokk of Sheep. A Philosophy of Purposeful Craft.
I aim towards to weave only upon request, creating unique, handcrafted pieces tailored to your needs. This approach avoids overproduction, minimizes waste, and respects our natural resources. The journey of the designs HYGGE and FLOKK, begins with locally sourced Norwegian wool, spun into rye yarn, perfect for carpets and functional textiles.
The HYGGE and FLOKK Designs
HYGGE: Includes rollable yoga mats and portable seat mats. Perfect for meditation, gatherings, or cozy moments at home.
FLOKK: Designed for larger orders, this collection provides cohesive pieces for studios, retreats, or groups—ideal for creating harmony in shared spaces.
The Process: Your Custom Piece, Handcrafted
Choose Your Yarn: Select from the natural, undyed hues of Norwegian spælsau sheep wool. These authentic colors honor the sheep’s heritage while keeping the process eco-friendly.
Customize Your Size: Decide on the size and dimensions of your carpet or mat. I weave it specifically to your preferences.
Design with Me: I offer bespoke textile design services, allowing you to incorporate elements like your favorite colors, therapeutic features, or specific designs.
Each product is designed to fit seamlessly into your life, whether for personal use, a business, or as a thoughtful gift.
Signature Collections for Resorts and Studios
For businesses like resorts, wellness studios, and farms looking to incorporate unique pieces into their spaces, I create signature collections. Together, we can craft designs in your favorite colors and styles to reflect your brand and ethos, blending aesthetics and purpose.
The Flokk – Free-Grazing Sheep in the Norwegian Highlands
The term flokk refers to a flock of sheep—often free-grazing in the lush, expansive Norwegian highlands during the summer months. These hardy, resilient sheep roam freely, grazing on the natural pastures, creating wool that is rich in character and texture.
The wool I use for my woven creations comes directly from these beautiful sheep, grazing among the mountains and valleys of Norway, in their natural habitat. The sheep's wool retains the essence of the land it comes from, making each piece I create a connection to the tranquil, rugged landscape of the highlands.
A Different Shopping Experience
When you choose to work with me, you’re not just buying a product, you’re stepping into a unique and immersive shopping experience. I invite you to visit my remote weaving workshop, where the magic happens.
Here, you’ll find weaving and product samples, and you can explore the yarn choices firsthand. Feel free to test, snuggle, and even walk barefoot on the rugs to truly connect with their texture and warmth. Watching me weave offers a deeper understanding of the process and the time-honored tradition behind each creation.
For those who live far away and can’t visit the studio, don’t worry, this process works just as well from a distance. You can choose your colors from the pictures I’ve posted under this journal. I update these photos in real-time to show the wool I currently receive from local farmers, ensuring that you’ll have an accurate and up-to-date selection to choose from.
By choosing this path, you’re helping to keep the art of weaving alive. This is something I’m deeply passionate about, carrying the craft forward to the next generation.
A Philosophy of Purposeful Craft
The Black Sheep Project represents my commitment to thoughtful, sustainable textile design. It’s about more than weaving rugs or mats; it’s about strengthening local economies, reducing waste, and creating textiles with purpose and a story. By offering an alternative to the traditional textile industry, I show that we can work with integrity, valuing the materials and the processes we use.
When you choose a piece from my collection, you're not just receiving a product—you’re connecting to nature, tradition, and the essence of these remarkable creatures and their wild surroundings. The flokk is not just a group of sheep; it’s the heartbeat of a timeless tradition, one that I’m proud to carry forward through my craft.
Whether you can visit my studio in person or work with me from afar, the result will be a piece that reflects your values and stands the test of time. Let’s create something truly special together.
